Guides to our Tile Finishes

The right tiles can simply transform a room. Colour and size are of course key, but there are also tile finishes to consider - such as matt or polished - and the care that comes with them. The following guides to our tile finishes should help you make the right choice.

Tile finish is also linked to slip rating. Slip ratings are a helpful way to understand the performance of a tile and deciding suitability for your project. It can be helpful to read this tile finishes guide in conjunction with our Guide to Slip Ratings.

The best way to be sure of a tiles texture and whether it is right for you, is to order our samples. It is worth noting that different manufacturers might use the same term, for example Matt, but their finishes will be different - so we have aimed to explain that here.

So if you're not sure where to start our guide should help you find your feet! If you'd like more advice then please get in touch with us, we would be delighted to help.

Antislip is basically a matt porcelain tile that has a texture or an additional layer of frit applied to the surface to give additional grip so these tiles can be used outside. All our Antislip tiles have a matching internal tile in a different finish that is suitable for use inside the home.

Our Antislip Soft finish combines softness and Antislip treatment in one. These tiles have a softer surface than a typical Antislip tile. We call them an All-in-one tile because exactly the same tile can be used inside the home across walls and floors aswell as outside the home. The surface is designed to be easy to clean and has a matt feel.

Our Contour finish harnesses the very latest digital technology to create textures that align perfectly with the printed pattern of a tile. These tiles capture the natural elements of a design as closely as possible to echo the real material, without the maintenance required with materials like natural stone or wood.

Gloss is a highly reflective surface applied to Porcelain or Ceramic decorative tiles to give them a lovely smooth, shiny finish.

Our Marquina tiles are in Gloss finish. They are made with a special glaze formula that gives them an ultra-white finish, beautifully smooth surface and a gentle reflective surface.

Matt is a non-reflective finish gives tiles a contemporary feel. It absorbs more light than a polished or gloss surface giving the tiles a softer feel.

Our Natural finish has a really subtle sheen which will reflect a little light and feels a little silkier to the touch than a Matt finish.

The Natural finish found in our ceramic wall tiles is different to the Natural finish to our Porcelains. That’s because many of our ceramic wall tiles have a raised or textured surface with a natural finish.

Our Polished porcelains have a highly polished and reflective surface.

Our Satin finish is an uneven polished finish that gives the tiles an aged appearance, echoing worn stone. It’s a softer look and feel than a polish or gloss.

Our Soft finish to our Metro and Loft collections is very much like Matt finish. It’s a lovely sophisticated surface finish with a soft touch feel.

For our Italian tiles collections Blend and Artisan this finish has a lovely silky feel to the tile surface.
