Our top stone look tiles

Porcelain stone look tiles are a beautiful, cost-effective, hardwearing and low maintenance alternative to real stone flooring. In our blog we explore our latest stone look tiles including  exciting designs and clever surface finishes. We explore all the benefits of choosing porcelain stone look tiles for your project and how the latest tile technology is delivering more realistic tiles than ever before.

What are stone look tiles?

Stone flooring undoubtedly has a timeless appeal and has been used for centuries in our homes. However, natural stone can be expensive and high maintenance with both initial sealing and ongoing regular treatments required. This is where porcelain stone look tiles come in. The latest high quality porcelain tiles expertly mimic the appearance of stone flooring to capture the intricate veining, textures and colour variations of real stone. At the same time, you have all the brilliant benefits that only porcelain can deliver and that includes longevity, ease of cleaning and superb resistance to scratching, wear and staining.

Simply put, porcelain stone look tiles offer the best of both worlds – great design and longevity. In fact a well installed porcelain tiled floor will keep its original appearance for years to come providing you with a beautiful, practical and long lasting floor.

Abode

Abode is a stunning example of a limestone porcelain tile. The collection features a well specified colour palette including the stand-out Abode White – this is a brilliant porcelain tile for bathrooms and ground floors alike. Abode Sand brings a warmer touch to spaces and Abode Silver and Grey blend beautifully together or work on their own and offer a cooler backdrop to spaces. With a hint of stone fleck to the tile surface Abode is minimal in design and beautifully subtle. The 600 x 600mm format has a soft chalky feel in natural finish and the larger 900 x 900 and 1200 x 600mm formats are both in an Antislip Soft finish with an R11 A+B+C rating making them great for use across the home on walls and floors and including wetrooms

Aspect

These Italian porcelain stone look tiles mimic real slate not only in the tile pattern and design, but also the texture. The tile surface features a slightly riven look and feel to give the appearance of real slate. This also adds depth to the tile design and the matt finish enhances this even further. Aspect includes 3 colours – Ash, Biscuit and Charcoal and is in a range of sizes with a 9mm thick tile for inside spaces and a 20mm thick co-ordinating paver with antislip finish for outside spaces allowing you to run the same tile across both inside and outside areas.

Bliss Flagstone

Bliss Flagstone mimics the traditional flagstone – not just in size but in design and texture too. In a 900 x 600mm format – a traditional flagstone size – these porcelain tiles feature detailed veining across the tile surface as well as a lovely finish with a subtle sheen to echo the look and feel of aged, worn, stone.

With a traditional flagstone tile, edges are tumbled and grout lines tend to be 5mm and upwards. One of the benefits of porcelain tiles is that they can have rectified tile edges and that means grout lines can be super slim at around 3mm thickness. In the case of Bliss, the surface around the edges feature a soft tumbling and this gives the wonderful appearance of a tumbled edge tile. Bliss is brilliantly designed and in 3 gorgeous tones. There are more tiles in the Bliss collection too, click here to explore!

Define

Define is a wonderful terrazzo effect porcelain tile collection that gives the appearance of assorted crushed pebbles. This creates irregular patterns on the tile surface that are set against a background of 4 colours – white, grey, silver and bone.  Define stone look tiles are in a range of sizes and in a Soft Antislip R11 A+B+C finish making these tiles brilliantly versatile and perfect for use across the home – and in areas where you might want a little more grip. Like all our antislip soft tiles, these porcelain tiles have also been designed for easy cleaning.

Ethos

Ethos is home to 5 unique designs. Each of the tiles in this collection are inspired by the randomness of nature. Ethos Shore and Cloud are the two stand-out colours in this collection. All the colours in our Ethos collection are available in a 9mm matt finish for internal areas and a 20mm thick tile with antislip finish for outside spaces. Both internal and external tiles work together allowing you to run your tiles from inside to outside the home with ease.

Alpine

Alpine porcelain tiles take a contemporary twist on a natural quartz tile. They combine a slightly riven surface with beautiful veining and subtle reflective surfacing. All 5 colours feature a matt surface finish for inside rooms and an antislip tile finish for outside areas.  Alpine is a fabulously versatile collection.

Poise

Poise is a beautiful example of superior Italian styling. These stone look tiles feature the subtlest of white veining and are in 5 shades with Ivory, Pebble and Greige tapping right into the current trends for warmer tones. All these tiles feature a 2cm outdoor co-ordinating tile allowing you to connect lounge to lawn with ease.

The benefits of stone look tiles

Stone look tiles can bring a luxurious stone look and feel at a lower cost and with less maintenance than the real thing. Stone look tiles don’t require any sealing or ongoing treatment to the tile surface, they are also exceptionally hardwearing and unlike natural stone which can prove to be quite soft in porcelain tiles are very hardwearing and highly scratch and stain resistant.

How to choose stone look tiles

Choosing stone look tiles is easy with porcelain. A high-quality porcelain tile, correctly installed, will stand the test of time and you don’t need to worry about ongoing maintenance,  but what else do you need to consider when picking tiles for your project?

Pattern and colour. As we have seen there are stone look porcelain tiles with little pattern on the tile surface for a subtle effect as well as tiles that are mimicking terrazzo with busier patterns. You may prefer a tile with a hint of veining across the surface.

Tile Size: with a move towards larger formats, even for bathrooms, tile sizes have definitely grown bigger with larger format tiles making their way into homes. 600 x 600mm, 1200 x 600mm, 800 x 800mm, 900 x 900mm, 1m x 1m, 1200 x 1200mm – all these sizes are considered larger formats. One benefit of these larger tiles, even in smaller spaces, is the lack of grout lines. Less grout lines tends to make spaces feel less busy and more contemporary.

Tile finish: as well as being important from an interior design perspective the finish of a porcelain tile is also about practicality and safety. Matt tile finishes can make a space feel warmer and cosier because they tend to absorb more light rather than reflect it. Highly polished tile finishes can make a space feel cooler but can be great for rooms with little natural light. Tile finish is also tied to slip ratings – a highly important consideration especially in bathrooms and wet rooms. Click here to read more about slip ratings.
